The Lake Davignon Watershed: A treasure worth preserving.

Cowansville, July 17, 2023 – The Lake Davignon watershed is home to invaluable treasures. The waterways, wetlands, and natural beauty of this territory will be showcased in a photography exhibition held at the Cowansville Nature Centre from July 24 to September 29, 2023.
Étienne Benoit and Pierre St-Arnault, from the Lake Davignon Watershed Protection Committee (CSBVLD), have traversed the watershed and now know nearly everyone one of its secrets. In addition to visually displaying the splendor of these sites, the exhibition will include an educational component: each photo will feature interesting, and sometimes previously untold, anecdotal or historical facts.
The two photographers complement one another: Étienne Benoit’s aerial photography and Pierre St-Arnault’s land-based photos will reveal hidden sides of the watershed, featuring locations and perspectives that have rarely been seen before.
"The artistic side is certainly highlighted through these photos," explains Pierre St-Arnault, President of the CSBVLD. "We also wanted to add an educational dimension to make the experience even more enriching for visitors, all set in the heart of nature, within the enchanting environment of the Centre de la Nature."
For Étienne Benoit, the watershed is an incredible playground for anyone wishing to discover the natural diversity of our region. Having authored three documentaries on the watershed's waterways, he is currently finalizing a final film on the North Branch Creek. "Over the last three years, I have surveyed the Lake Davignon watershed and learned to appreciate these fragile environments," says Étienne Benoit. This photography exhibition crowns his research on the main tributaries of Lake Davignon. "By helping to make our watershed known, I hope to have contributed to raising awareness about the importance of protecting it," he concludes.
The public is invited to the opening reception (vernissage) on July 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nature Centre chalet, located at 225 chemin de la Plage, Cowansville. The photographers wish to thank the City of Cowansville and the MRC Brome-Missisquoi for their financial support, without whom this project would not have been possible.
